Vaginal distension

Vaginal distension means the widening of the vagina in the event of its abnormal narrowing, which causes some difficulties. The most common problem is dyspareunia, pain during intercourse or apareunia, i.e. the inability to have intercourse. The causes of vaginal constriction – narrowing of the vagina are various. It may be the result of an autoimmune disease, when your immunity paradoxically defends itself against your own tissues, in this case against the structures in the area of the external genitalia and vagina.

Another reason may be the result of a previous gynecological operation or childbirth, when the vagina or the entrance to the vagina narrows, preventing painless intercourse, or even a preventive gynecological examination. This is a relatively common problem, which is, however, so intimate that a woman does not like to confide in it.

Plastic distension (vaginal widening) surgery can adjust the size of the vagina in the problem area. Its task is to eliminate the above-mentioned problems. Plastic surgery will increase functional comfort and contribute to your greater self-confidence.

A preoperative consultation will help you determine whether and which type of plastic surgery is suitable for you. In some cases, a part of the vagina that is not narrowed is used. In other cases, however, we must use another biological tissue that serves as a patch after I release – widen the vagina.

How is the operation performed

The length of the operation depends on the extent of the defect. It usually takes 30-40 minutes. It can be performed under so-called analgosedation and local anesthesia. During the operation, the vaginal wall is released from the adjacent connective tissue. Subsequently, the released vaginal wall is moved to the narrowed area and fills the previously released space. After careful control of bleeding, the edges of the released vagina are adjusted and sutured.

The functional effect appears after the tissues have healed, i.e. after about one month. The impact on your psyche is also very significant.

This type of surgery is performed on an adult woman, preferably after fulfilling her own fertility plans. However, this is not a strict requirement in the case of significant problems.

What happens after surgery

The postoperative course shows only minimal pain, which responds well to analgesics. In some cases, when it is a combined surgery associated with plastic surgery of the perineum, daily herbal baths (rape, oak bark, witch hazel, etc.) are suitable, followed by drying (using a hairdryer) and contribute to adequate healing.

To exclude or diagnose postoperative problems early, a check-up at our clinic is recommended every three weeks or when you feel a problem.

The specific details of your surgical procedure, including answers to all possible questions, are the subject of a personal consultation meeting.
